Adam Smith - Vanderblue Collection

The Adam Smith – Vanderblue Collection is one of the most comprehensive collections of the works of Adam Smith in many translations and editions, including The Wealth of Nations, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, Essays on Philosophical Subjects, Lectures on Justice, Police, Revenue and Arms, collected works, and miscellaneous writings. The collection also contains a selection of Smith’s manuscript letters, criticisms of Smith’s works, biographies of Smith, catalogues of Smith’s library, books from Smith’s library, prints, medallions, and busts.

The collection was donated by Homer B. Vanderblue, Harvard Business School Professor of Business Economics and Dean of the School of Commerce. Professor Vanderblue was also honorary Curator of Early Economic Literature in Baker Library.

Celebrating 250 Years of The Wealth of Nations

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of Adam Smith’s An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, Baker Library Special Collections & Archives has published The Wealth of Nations: A Checklist of Imprints Held in the Kress Collection of Business and Economics. The publication highlights the depth and international scope of Baker Library’s renowned Adam Smith holdings, including rare editions, translations, provenance evidence, annotations, and related archival materials.
